Nvidia GTX 1080 and 1070 Launch Recap

The best time to buy a 980 and 980ti will be November. By then the 1070 and 1080 will be shipping in volume and the rebates on the 980 and 980ti will be in full blown PANIC mode as inventory will be outright dumped. If you care to wait 6 months? That's the time for the 3x SLI beast build.

And half the used seller will still be listing a 980ti for "$900CDN, Firm", because, idiots...

I currently use an i3 540 with 4gb of ram and a gtx 660ti, I was about to upgrade to an fx 8350 black and 8gb of ram but Im going to save up until November / Christmas and build an 2x sli 980 with an i7 4790 and 8gb of ram , ot should I just buy another 660ti and put them in sli? Id rather do that

What I want to know is what the power requirements for the GTX 1070 will be - if the 1080 uses an 8-pin pcie power connector, you could presume that the 1070 uses a 6-pin. And what's even more impressive is that the GTX 1060 is rumored to not require auxiliary power - just goes to show how powerful and efficient the Pascal architecture is!

I believe the 1070 will need an 8 pin seeing it uses 180TDP, but we'll have to wait and see.

By what the pictures on the Nvidia website shows us, the GTX 1080 does, indeed use an 8-pin PCI-Express power connector. The 1070? I'm not so sure. I plan on getting two of the 1080's and run them in SLI, then I'll be set for a long while (depends on whether I buy the latest, most demanding AAA title later on or I decide to opt out)
