As the title suggests i need help deciding which route to take, im either going to get a 240GB SSD for OS and most/all Programmes and Games, and a 1 TB HDD for all the other stuff e.g Music, Vids, Work Files all that jazz. Or just a Crucial M500 960GB for everything, and not bother with a HDD. Which solution do you guys think is better? Ofcouse the 960GB SSD will be faster but dont SSD's die faster the more you use them? I read something about this on some random site i cant even remember what its called now, but im just wondering.

Im trying to see what will last me longer in terms of reliability, then comes Speed, i dont want to spend a shit load and have one or the other dieing within a year, hopeing it will last me at least 3 years :)

BTW i do a lot of Video game recording :), so that might be something to keep in mind :D

Thanks

If I were to choose I would choose the 240GB SSD accompanied with a 1TB HDD.

Stick with the 240GB SSD + HDD... You don't need to store all of your files on the SSD. I have a 256GB and just copy games over when I want to play them. Much cheaper solution and only requires a little bit of work.

Case = Bitfenix Prodigy, Motherboard = P8Z77 - I Deluxe, CPU = 3570k @ 4.2GHz, RAM = 2x 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws, GPU = Sapphire 7950 Boost Edition, Storage = 256GB Samsung 840 Pro.

Are you recording raw files? The 240GB SSD will still be sufficient, you might just need to keep most of your files that you're not regularly using on your HDD.

Would always suggest an SSD + HDD combination for mass storage. The only situation I would see an SSD to be suitable would be for something like a HTPC (Where media is stored on a NAS) or a computer which you plan to store a few programs on and you just want for convenience of speed... in my opinion anyway.

Computer Specs (The Space Fridge):

CPU: Intel i5 3570k | Motherboard: MSI Z77A G45 | RAM: Kingston Hyper X Blu | SSD: OCZ Agility 3 (60GB) |

HDD: Seagate Barracuda (500GB) | GPU: MSI HD 7950 Fwin Frozr iii | PSU: Corsair CX600 | Case: NZXT Phantom 410 w/ NZXT Blue LED strip

Well, just an SSD would definitely be faster, if you're doing a lot of recording then that will definitely benefit from faster write speeds. SSD's do get worn out by writing but it's nowhere near as dramatic as people make it out to be and so hard drives still almost always die faster than SSD's, unless say you are re-writing the whole 960GB multiple times a day.

Crucial says that the M500 960GB will last a MINIMUM of 40GB of writes every day for 5 years. That adds up to 72 TB, that will be the absolute minimum because people on a different forum were doing endurance testing on SSD's and they pretty much always last for atleast 1PetaByte of writes, which is over 500GB a day for 5 years... Now again keep in mind that many last longer than that hitting 5PB.

And if something goes horribly wrong and it doesn't last the 3 years you're hoping for, well, it has a 3 year warranty so... no problem.

So yes, if you're worried about endurance, don't be. The speed will definitely come in very handy but it's up to you if you think it's worth the extra money or if you would be happy with a SSD + HDD setup.
