Hi,

I'm thinking of building a small gaming pc build mostly from used / second hand parts. What do you guys think?

Parts:

Intel I5 2500

Asus P8H61-I

XFX AMD Radeon 6950 2GB

Kingston 2x 4GB DDR3 1333MHz

Seagate 500GB 16MB 7200RPM 2.5" SATA

SilverStone RVZ01-E

(maybe) SSD 64GB or 128GB

Power supply: ATX, either 550W or 600W, 14cm fan (both)

However, I have some questions about:

Power supply: that 550w PS does have only 1 6pin for vga. 6950 require 2. Should I go with the 550w one and use 2xmolex to 6pin or for the 600w one that does have 2 6pin? also, none of them are modular

Processor: I5 2500 does have 95 TDP, can I use stock cooler? will it fit inside the RVZ01-E?

Motherboard: socket is down next to PCIE and ram slots, can it cause clearance issues for ram, gpu (does have backplate) or non-stock cpu cooler?

GPU: reference design in small case = thermal issues?

What psu will you be buying? Please list the brand and model.

Yes, you can use the stock cooler for it, intel wouldn't have included it otherwise.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Power Supply: You can buy an adaptor that will split the power into two 6pins. I have one for my GTX560 and it runs fine.

Processor: Intel Stock is 50mm tall, case allows for 86mm. Your good.

Motherboard: If you are buying the case new, I would get the Fractal Design Node 202, It has a dedicated spot for a GPU. If you get that case, you shouldn't have a problem.

Both of them are are obscure brands that you might not see very often. O a l east I don't see very often.

Eurocase ATX-550W PFC (1x6+2 pin, 3x sata, 3x molex)

Eco+87 ATX-600WA-14-85 (2x6+2 pin, 6x sata, 3x molex)

none of them are modular

It seem that it only supports SFX power supplies. I need something that can fit ATX PS in. Like SilverStone RVZ01-E.

EDIT: RVZ01-E does also have dedicated spot for gpu

That 550w one (probably) have have been used whilst the second, 600w one is (according to the listing): new, still in box.

Everything on the list except case is used.

Why?

Why?

Because the PSU is probably the most important piece in your system

You mean like with the amount of hour clocked in it can backfire and burn all components?

Age, bad components, bad wiring, the list goes on.

So should I go for the 600w one that "is still in the box" or just straight out of shop? Are there other components that should I worry about?

Also, I just noticed that the MB doesn't support front USB 3.0. Will USB 2 to 3 adapter like this work? http://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Female-Motherboard-Adapter-Converter/dp/B009SJCPO8

I'd imagine at best the ports would work, but naturally you wouldn't get USB 3.0 speed, no clue if the adapter actually works

Buying it new new would probably be best, something from Seasonic, super flower, XFX(non XT), EVGA (GQ/G2), higher end corsair

I only really need them to work. If they won't have USB 3.0 speed but only 2.0 speed, that's fine.

According to PSU calculator at Coolermaster website, the load would be about 300 watts. It recommends me 350 watt PS. So if I take like an 80% bronze 550w PS, it should be good enough, right?

the 80 plus rating is only how much power it needs from the wall, and a decently made PSU will be able to deliver up to 550W, it'll just draw an extra 20% from the wall

mostly just make sure it's built properly or from a reputable manufacturer hopefully

overall it really doesn't matter, so long as you don't buy the cheapest of the cheap

@Streetguru Mind if I ask? Did you meant any kind of Seasonic PSU or some specific series?

Also, I saw your post about Corsair CX PSUs in the other thread. What about CS or RMx series. Are they any good?

Pretty much everything seasonic makes seems to be pretty good, if you just look up random seasonic PSU reviews they're all pretty much 9/10s, mostly just look for reviews of PSUs

CS 550W, pretty good

RM is basically the same overall, the x series probably a bit better since that's their higher end
