SLI?

Go to solution Solved by Festive,

Save your money... It isn't worth it to SLI low end cards. Even if it was worth it, which it isn't, your CPU is already being pushed to the limit and probably bottlenecking that one 960 a bit so putting two in is....bad.

Should I Get 2 960s in SLI or just save the money?

CPU: i9-9900k

What is your PC? It's not worth it. Can I ask why? If you're not getting the performance that you, then sell your card and get 380/x.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | CPU Cooler: Stock AMD Cooler | Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) | RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Zotac Mini | Case: K280 Case | PSU: Cooler Master B600 Power supply | SSD: 1TB  | HDDs: 1x 250GB & 1x 1TB WD Blue | Monitor: 24" Acer S240HLBID | OS: Win 11 Pro.

Home Lab:  Lenovo ThinkCenter M82 Hyper-V Server 2022 | Dell OptiPlex 9020 Hyper-V Server 2022 | TP-LINK TL-SG108E | Cisco Catalyst C2960CG 8 Port Switch | HP MicroServer G8 SCCM Server | 2x Dell PowerEdge R630 Hyper-V Server 2022

If you're talking about mid-ranged GPUs, you should really only get another one if you have one already and can't afford the next tier card. However, there are many drawbacks to doing so. You can end up spending more money with multiple mid-ranged cards versus a higher-end card like a GTX 970.  For instance, I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2 GB in my system that I bought on sale for $169.99. If I somehow found another one on sale for the same price, the total price would be $339.98. The next-level Maxwell card is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, which can be found for $309.99 on NewEgg. Yes, the two 960's will perform better than the 970 in best-case scenarios, but being limited to 2 GB of VRAM and also the fact that many games don't support SLI makes it less viable. I can't just get a 4 GB 960 and mix that in, either, because SLI doesn't work with different memory amounts, plus getting two 4 GB models would be even more expensive. Also, you'll need a bigger PSU for two 960's versus one 970, so that further adds to the cost.

In other words, it may just be more trouble than it's worth.
