how do i replace the led on a msi 390x?

so, during the process of changing my 390x to yellow, i had to remove the led from the casing.

 

long story short, i broke the led, and its not able to be fixed.

How can i replace it?

I'm no expert here, but could you not just uh, buy some LEDs and solder them on?

 Almost as cool as my temps

These are 3mm but you could maybe widen the hole?

If my highschool memory serves me correctly you might need to check if the resistances are OK for whatever circuit you're connecting the LED to

 Almost as cool as my temps

its a flat one, not round :)

I'm pretty sure the top of the LED is literally just plastic, and as such you could file it down to be flat :)

 Almost as cool as my temps

Hmm do you have a photo, Sounds like they are those really small SMD LED's where they can be replaced but require a bit of delicate soldering.

theyve..... been destroyed in the process of removing them.....

 

 

bt, i can say they were approx 1mmx1mmx10mm

i bought these asa replacement.

size 603, warm yellow, pack of 20

Hmm those look promising, double check to using a pair of calipers to see the distance between the pads and width.

Like the solder pads on the PCB where the LED's go, if you can approx what size of it then it will be easier to know the size of the LED's.

the smds i linked have soldered wires on them already.

cant i just connect positive lead to positive smd, and negatve lead to negative smd?

You could but it wouldn't sit flush with the PCB then, also if it's the eBay linked ones previously I believe those are straight SMD chips without leads.

theres no pcb

 

its just a +/- wire to the smd

Really O.o, I would have though they used a PCB to mount everything on but yeah if they are just two wires then I guess then that would work.

yeah, pcbs like 1mm x1mmx5mm

 

but i broke it when i was taking it off

the actual diode is like 1mmx1mm x.5mm

 

the one i linked can be connected right to the leads, right?

You could connect leads to them but only concern I have is how they would mount or stay in place, where I assume the old PCB held it in a certain place.

16 gauge nichrome +12 v =minimum ~220c right?

its was like a plastic cover with the msi logo.

i can just hot glue the smd into place.

it was heald by hot glue as well :)]

Ok as long as they stay in the right place it shouldn't have an issues with just leads then, for the Nichrome wire in your other project, as long as you can pass enough amps through it then it should get quite hot.

37.5 amps?
