So I want to try something cool. I want to hack up my S340 and a few other things, customize a crapton of stuff, and eventually, hopefully create a fatass laptop with desktop components. It's gonna hopefully be huge, with dimensions probably about 20-30 by 35-40cm, and like 6 inches thick, and that's just the bottom half. And NO, I will not use a briefcase. This will be all custom using only an old motherboard tray and maybe PSU mounting thing. I am REALLY looking for suggestions here. Is it possible for me to make a PSU thinner? Can I get some goddamn sponsors or something, and if so, how? My budget is probably going to be really low for the case (Maybe $200-300 max so far) and although the I have sourced some of the components for the actual PC, I still need a GPU, PSU, motherboard, and some kind of cheap monitor. Oh yeah, and the BATTERY. Can I plug in that PSU into a battery that'll give at least 1 hour or something, and have that battery attach to the laptop? I dunno. Any help would be really appreciated, so let me know if you have any suggestions. Finally, if I do end up being able to do it, it'll probably look like shit, so yeah. Sorry... At least it'll hopefully work :)

Since you are taking the time, this PSU is cheap and does what you would want, its server grade, and small & efficient.  At max load, its louder than hell, but not so when its running at half-load.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

For a laptop I would suggest an MATX or MITX board.

The he chassis is probably gonna have to be modded obviously. You could take the MOBO tray and PCIE brackets off your S340 or just get some standoffs and put on some metal sheet and mount a MOBO inside. Like most "gaming" laptops, I'd suggest using the rear of the case as exhaust. Get a blower style card, and use a PCIE extender to lay the GPU down.

I drew some quick sketches of a layout, just my own personal suggestion. I'd suggest everything facing down and adding case feet, since you don't want air intake from where a keyboard would be on a regular laptop. Btw, are you planning on adding a keyboard? PCIE riser cards are your best friend by the way.

as far as Battery do watts/volts to find the amps that your battery would have to be.If a ups will not work your best bet is a deep cycle battery and a power inverter... the real way to do it is a Rechargeable Power Source/portable powerpack like a  http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-852-1807-Outlet-Rechargeable-Source/dp/B000S0VFTM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462334484&sr=8-2&keywords=battery+generator

ps. also look at power packs for photographers.
