How do I decide which motherboard to get?

So I decided on the node 804 for my case in my first gaming PC build and was wondering with all the motherboard features, how do I decide on a motherboard and is it dependent on the CPU? I know I want ddr3 memory for sure.

Just make sure it has the right socket for the CPU you pick out, or vice versa.

Base it on:

  • What features you want / need ( ie. WiFi? DDR3? DDR4? CPU socket type?)
  • Form factor (size)
  • Are you going to be overclocking -- do you need a beefier power delivery circuitry?
  • Aesthetics that you prefer (i.e. colour)

 

IMO, it's just like buying anything else...for an example, a pair of shoes.

If you are going to go...say...mountain biking...you wouldn't get a pair of shiny leather dress shoes for that.

Don't think I'm ready to over clock yet. It's gonna be ddr3 RAM, cube form factor, wifi for sure, but as far as other specifics, I don't know. I'll be using it to game on mostly. It's gonna be a monitor and flat screen setup. Games gotta be at max settings on 1080p. Reply for more specifics that I'm leaving out. Thanks you guys.
