Hi guys

I am hoping someone can answer something for me.

The computer that I had the free upgrade of W10 on has died (motherboard failed) and I am going to buy a skylake nuc to replace it.

My question is can I install W10 from a usb onto the nuc and activate it using the W7 disc I originally purchased for the old computer?

Regards

Glen

From my knowledge, no. The product key will register as valid for Windows 7 not 10. Windows 10 will not accept a Windows 7 product key. If you install Windows 7 and go through the upgrade process again that should work though.

Unfortunately I can't pick up the nuc until I get my tax return which will be after the free upgrade finishes...

Surely MS would activate it:D it's not my fault the bloody computer died:(

Also I read somewhere that I just use the W7 disc again as it is tied to the W10 install:(

It's worth a shot. You can attempt the upgrade regardless of Microsoft's status. Who knows, it might still work. If not then their are a few options still available to you before the last resort of purchasing a valid Windows 10 Product Key. (Clone your drive to the nuc's drive. Might work, it could also invalidate the windows 10's genuine status, worth a shot if it comes to it)
