I wouldn't get your hopes up with any of them. There have been reports of new groundbreaking battery technology for years, yet we're still stuck the ancient battery tech.

Yes, some of them have been demoed, but they're just not making it out into the hands of the consumer. Hell, I think the only breakthrough that's actually got out into the market would be those fuel cell batteries.

We don't really need advancements, we just need chunky phones: 5 and 6 inches frames are already big enough to house fairly large battery: frankly nobody should set up for less than 3000mha for a 1080p phone for example. You just need to remember girth = good and stop this stupid race to the most paper thin shitty phone ever.

It's not just phones. We need higher capacity, higher efficiency, longer lived, and ideally not made out of rare and/or polluting materials batteries for vehicles and for storing renewable energy. I'll believe breakthroughs when they go into production, so much has been promised, so little has hit the market.

I agree, its batteries that are really holding back renewables as a real alternative to oil,. but with companies like Tesla motors pushing the envelope with electric cars I dont think it will be long before we see some of the advancements in the article start to trickle into mainstream use. Also it would be nice not to have to plug all of my devices into charge every 12hrs or so :)
