wired wifi

xwrench3

i have been thinking on and off about this for a while. but i have decided to do it, or not. i want to be able to run wired internet most of the time  (for shear speed), but wireless for when it storms. can i run them at the same time? as in an internal wifi card and ethernet. or should i buy a usb wifi adapter. and only plug it in after i unplug the ethernet cord.

i have a surge protector. that will not stop lightning from coming in thru the internet line. that happened to us about 4 or 5 years back. we lost my computer, 5 telephones, 2 tv's, and a stereo that was using the internet as an antenna.  only items that were connected to the internet got quick fried to a crackly crunch. actually, they did not. but some of their transistors did.

You can pick up ethernet surge protectors. Otherwise just have them both plugged in and when a store comes unplug the ethernet and it will roll over to the WiFi.
