COUNTRY: The Netherlands
PRICE RANGE: I will not be able to afford high-end "state of the art" items but there's no need to be modest either. Good "budget" items are fine (especially for screens, I am not interested in $1000 screens. I just want multiple, solid monitors that just work and do its job) I cannot really name a price range because I have no idea how to determine the costs of the items I need.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

Thank you for taking the time to look through my post and potentially helping me out. I have a few things to think about in preparation for next year's summer (yes, not 2016 but 2017!). This is still a bit more than a year away, whilst I understand that, it is about the time when I finish my first degree at school and gives me an opportunity to save up money to do all this. With the support of my family, I am looking towards you guys for helping clear up things that I do not understand and having either trouble looking up on the internet or I just seem to lack the specific patience to find the right answers.

First of all, I would like to give you an idea of my current set-up, afterwards what I would like that set-up to become. (I also included a DxDiag for those curious) (note: i'm completely fine on peripherals)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
  • Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer
  • Processor: Intel(R) cORE I7-4770K CPU - 3.50GHz (8CPUs)
  • Memory RAM: 16GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Cooler: No idea, I know it's a CoolerMaster and it's currently doing it's job, making sure my CPU is at about 45-50 degrees while playing high-end games on max / ultra graphics.
  • Monitors: 2 Generic PnP Monitors from Samsung, regular TV screens, very cheap

So with my intention of going on YouTube and also streaming on Twitch, the following is kind of what I want. But do please bear with me as I do not know at all what detailed parts I should go for but I will include my research thus far and what I think I need to get.

I am sorry for the long thread guys, hopefully it explained my intentions and wishes. Thanks in advance for all the help, looking forward to some replies. And please remember that money does NOT have to be a factor in recommendations if something is too expensive, I will simply say so but if you have some awesome kick-ass recommendation that is totally worth the price and tell me why then I am always willing to consider putting in effort to save up for whatever you recommended!

I want to do this streaming thing right and not half-ass it. I enjoyed it a lot when I was amateur-ing it and this time I want to do it proper! Thanks!

Cheers,

HidekiGGe

I can help you with some of this.

Regarding the Asus VG248QE being more expensive than the other two monitors, it's because it is a 144Hz monitor whereas the BenQ and Llyama models you selected are only 60Hz. This means, assuming you are getting above 60fps then you can take advantage of the smoother 144Hz refresh rate.

To be honest, I think 3 monitors with one above is a little overkill because as a dual monitor user myself, I can't really imagine what I'd be using a third monitor for. You'd be better off getting fewer better quality cheaper models in my opinion.

As for the monitor stands, are you sure you don't want a desk mount over a wall mount. Desk mounts are cheaper, easier to setup and, oh, aren't in the wall :P

Regarding the microphone, Most would agree the Rode NT-USB is a considerably better microphone than the Yeti in that price range and was reviewed by Linus here:

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Thank you for the reply AstroBenny!

I definitely think the monitor count is a bit overkill, however it's been a dream of mine to atleast have 3 monitors in a set-up for a while now. 3 proper ones, not just TV's. Do you have any recommendations on what kind of monitors you would pick for a dual-monitor setup? The main reason I was thinking about 3 is primarily to use 1 for my streaming programs, one for the game and one for anything generally for me personally.

As for monitor stands, wall or desk, I really don't know, haha! I don't think I will mind either aslong as they do the job, I suppose? My main concern is that my desk isn't wide enough to support 3 monitors next to each other, rather than if they were mounted in a way that it could easily and sturdily extend the two side screens over the side of my desk. If that makes sense.

And thank you for the microphone recommendation, I'll add it to my list for future reference and check it out as well!

I'm currently using two of the VG248QEs as you mentioned and they're pretty good. The 144Hz refresh rate is a lot easier on the eyes and colours are decent for a 144Hz TN panel.

Since everyone else is covering monitors, I´ll cover hardware. Your system, as of now, should be adequate enough for some Youtube and Twitch. Just don´t expect anything crazy from it.

Thanks for your reply.

If I manage to upgrade a the 770 graphics card to a 980 with 4GB instead of 2GB, would that considerably improve my performance or would I need to upgrade other parts as well?

I'd wait for Polaris or Pascal to upgrade.

You completely lost me. xD

From what I gather Polaris is AMD and Pascal is Nvidia? Wouldn't the pricing be ridiculous on those things then? According to articles it'd be multiple times faster than a Titan.

Maybe, but theoretically it should drive the prices of the current cards down.

So, would like to get some opinions on my new findings, this is considering my desk is faced against a wall. If I were to go with 2 monitors instead of 3:

vs

I mean, I understand it's roughly the same price but this would probably be better to go with the 2x option if I were to eventually get a third screen right?

My only dilemna with the 2-in-1 monitor mount is that it seems to only support max 10kg weight while the ASUS monitor is 5.5kg per screen.
