Estimate on how long a 6600K @ 4.4GHz would last?

Not talking about gaming performance, but just life expectancy. Assume it only needs a little less than 1.3Vcore, and it stays under 70C under load.

I know a 6600K @ 4.4GHz is basically a 6700K slightly OCed in terms of gaming, but how long will that last?

Years.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Long after you replace it with i5 10 gen processor. Basically, you dont need to worry about it unless u plan on using it for 20 to 30 years maybe even 100, i dont know :P

Well if they were crazy like 4.8 or 5 (stock clock was in the 2 ghzs range) but anyway if u have that consider replacing it. It will last about 1 more year and then will start to be the bottleneck soo yeah. Sandybridge is nearing its end anyway. :(

Nah I just feel like saving $150 on a CPU. A 6600K @ 4.4GHz is the same as a 6700K, so yeah.

I never told you to go i7 though. But you have a better a cpu, the i7-4790k you dont need to upgrade it.

It will last long enough that you will replace it before it dies.

Just tag @ChatDaw so I can answer as fast as possible.

I mean first I'll try 4.4GHz on stock, and if it's stable I probably have a beast chip. If it isn't then I'll turn C states off and bump it to 1.3.

The excepted is 4.5 to 4.6 so that wont be the beast. 4.8 yes that would be the best

Wait, what? Who told you that? Clocks aren't the meaningful difference between i5 and i7.

I'd explain hyperthreading to you, but you don't seem that new to computers.

So I'm confused.

That's becoming more and more conditional, though. It's gone from "an i7 makes no difference in games" to "an i7 can help in some games" and a bit further in recent history, and the newer APIs are just making more and more use of multithreaded processors.
