Okay, i game on a 1080p monitor, and i always will. I plan on purchasing a G-SYNC monitor in the future, but i first I want a GPU.

Currently i own a GTX 770 4GB, and its starting to show its oldness by lagging in current release once i pump the games graphics up to ULTRA. Games like Witcher 3, The Divsion ect ect. I can play the games fine on High graphics, but, im the type of guy that wants to utilize the max settings of games. I also plan on getting the Occulus Rift when the prices drop. So i want a one time GPU purchase to handle my 1080p needs.

So now my question is, which GPU should i get so that i can MAX out games out there on a 1080p monitor?? GTX970 - GTX980 - GTX980TI??

Current specs are:

I7 3770k CPU

8GB RAM DDR3

GTX 770 4GB

1080p MONITOR

Remember, i want to max out the games completely on a 1080p screen .....

Hum did you have any bad exêrience with AMD? Cause to be honest G-sync is the same shit as freesync, they charge 300$ more cause it's nvidia patented. Look at freesync monitors versus gsync monitors, you'll see what I mean. I cannot recommend a gtx970 over a r9 390, r9 390 all the way. Better everything but power consumption on that card.

Save yourself some money and go AMD, get a Sapphire Fury and a FreeSync monitor instead. The Fury is better than a 980.

You'll max out AAA games no problem at 1080p no problem with 970/r9 390

Heads up, it's the Nano that's cheaper than the 980, not the Fury.

Oh yeah. I'd forgotten that. But of the two, I'd still pick a Fury over a Nano.

Though the cheaper part was more directed at FreeSync over G-Sync.

Nvidia didn't patent it, they just require the moniter to have a special chip that they make be put in it, and they charge the companies a exorbitant amount of money for these chips and the license to use them.

If you really want to max out everything at 1080p, the 980 would be ok, but as vr games runs on 1440p, you should go for the 980ti if you can afford it

Gaming rig : i5 6600k | EVGA 1070 FTW | 16Go DDR4 HyperX Fury | Intel 600p - WD Black

Laptop : Macbook 2017

Home server : AMD A10 7700k | 2*2TB unraid array + 250GB ssd cache

Unless you like motion sickness I'd avoid Nvidia for VR at the moment.

Fury is better than a 980 while basically costing as much/+$50 for the cheapest 980 compared to the cheapest fury...same amount of Vram, the fury is faster (more FPS) so why not?

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

It's almost as stupid as charging manufactures to have a SLI compatible motherboard.

Im just a Nvidia type of guy. I have bad experiences with AMD when it comes to the past, thats why i switched over. And if i get a Freesync monitor, id also need to purchase an AMD card, which i dont really want to do

One bad experience doesn't make a trend, buy a Fury and if you don't like it for whatever reason return it and get a weaker 980.
