Just looking for tips on this part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jVqNkL

My max budget is around $835.  I'm looking to be able to play most games on high textures at least 50fps, but I'm willing to turn down textures for better fps if necessary. I will likely be able to answer most questions, depending on the time of day. Thanks for the help!

Swap out the 970 for a 390, avoid ASUS and Gigabyte for AMD.

I actually bench marked the ssc vs the sapphire 390 and the EVGA 970 SSC won everytime and every game. Don't believe everyone that says go 390 because I was shocked when I ran side by side comparisons myself.

If the 390 is not overclocked of course it'll lose against a highly clocked 970, look at new games as well, Nvidia is getting curb stomped with every new DX12 release.

What titles did you bench? The 970 and 390 are almost even when it comes to DX11 games, but load up DX12 games like Ashes of the Singularity, and suddenly the 390 competes with the much more expensive GTX 980/980 Ti. Quantum Break is also Quantum Broken on NVidia cards.

Make the switch to Skylake (preferably an i5 6500 with DDR4 RAM).

Ditch the PSU, the NEX series aren't that good. Grab the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 instead.

Mass storage is always handy, I would grab a 1TB Caviar Blue.

Well first off the 390 is a great card, it does not in any way shape or form compare with the 980 ti. People need to stop believing every youtuber they hear and perform their own tests. I was very fortunate because I was very lucky won a EVGA 970 SSC after just buying a sapphire r9 390  I had been researching both for weeks and I was convinced the R9 390 was the best, "no doubt" I bench marked both and was shocked. I really wanted AMD and the r9 390 to clean house and make me feel better about selling the 970. I have all the benches, I ended up selling them both and getting a 980 ti classified

Again, what titles did you bench? I'm referring to DirectX 12 games exclusively. If you had read through my previous posts, you'd know that I referred to those situations explicitly.

I read that. It was a rhetorical question. I was hoping that when you'd point them out again, you'd realize that every single title there is a DirectX 11 game.

'Results vary', sure, but you need to look at DirectX 12 benchmarks. Here's something to help you get on top of the situation a little faster.

I'm not getting mad or being rude about this. I merely suggested that you watch a well-presented study by a reputable technology information channel.

Do I take your rather rude comment as a refusal to watch the video?

Actually, that is very unfair due to the nature of the 970 - GPU Boost 2.0 takes them to 1400 core or so - that's a OCed 970 vs a stock 390. Invalid results

Believe what you will, the 390 is just superior.

Get a 390, preferably Sapphire or MSI, and a better PSU. Apparently, EVGA"s G2 and P2 series have a major design issue and their lower end NEX units are crappy. I'd suggest a SeaSonic S12G or G-series

G2 have a design flaw that causes undervoltage protections to not work properly - it was recently revealed. That and the P2 are affected.

Thing is - the scheduler on Maxwell has been stripped down to the basics resulting in Maxwell cards being utterly incompetent under A-sync workloads in DX12 - that is the reason there is not only no gain on them but actually a decrease in performance sometimes - most 900 series GPUs get overburdened. The 390, on the other hand, has a MUCH beefier scheduler and 64 + 1 pipelines running in tandem

D12 is theory until it makes its way into usefulness, Greek is a great language but it is dead! Where does one see the gains. Prove it! Don_svelio I do have respect for you, please explain more. I am not convinced

D12 is already in full swing - Ashes, Hitman, Quantum Break, Tomb Raider (DX12 patch but it still shows part of the issue - my laptop suffered a performance hit unlike my desktop).

As for Greek, the country to the south of Bulgaria is called Greece, they speek Greek there.
