GPU just died?

So earlier today, I was just chilling playing some games when all of a sudden I get a static screen, a buzz, and my pc shuts off. when i try to turn it back on, the pc boots back up just fine, except my monitor wont display anything and basically acts like its not plugged in. The gpu's fans still spin up, but it doesnt seem to be outputting an image. heres a list of everything ive tried:

• Tested the monitor on a different pc, it works
• tried the other DVI port on the card
• tried plugging the gpu into a different slot
• tried soaking the gpu in bleach (jk)

all of this to no avail. I'm going to try plugging the gpu into a different PC, but are there any thing else i can do to determine if this gpu is dead?

 

this is the first time this has ever happened, the gpu is ~2 years old, and is an AMD r9 270 (msi oc edition). the rest of my specs are in my signature.

try reapplying the thermal paste on it

just tried it in another pc, different monitor, different cable, same problem. But atleast I know the gpu IS the issue.

 

Ill try reapplying the thermal paste. hopefully i have some extra lying around.

Put the GPU into a different PC then tell us if it works. If it doesn't it's GPU, if not then something else is broken. Reapplying thermal paste will change nothing.

What game you were playing at what resolution and do you know/remember temp?

the gpu didnt work in another computer either, so atleast we've narrowed the problem down to the gpu. Funnily enough, i was actually about an hour into minecraft (first time playing since forever ago), which is a cpu intensive game.

Yes okay, but do you remember GPU temperature and GPU load?

no, i didn't see what the temp/load was at the crash

I don't think reapplying thermal paste is going to change anything and it isnt worth your time and potentially voiding warranty. If temps were the issue, you should at least be able to boot to see temps, reapplying thermal paste wont make it boot.

I believe that GPU is permanently dead. Possibly from overheating.

Playing since forever. Is there dust on the gpu cause that can cause heating problems

no, i keep the inside of my pc as dust free as possible so I don't think that was the cause of the problem, however it could very well have been related to heat.  

I have never overclocked the gpu before, and it wasn't any hotter in my room than normal today when it died.

I dont know man. Another friend of mine had a HD 69 something died on him out of the blue.

Contact AMD warranty (if you still have it). They should be able to help.
