Bad news from BlackBerry: 4,500 jobs to be cut, expected Q2 net operating loss of over $950 million, Oh no that is alot of money down!

blackberry-10-launch.jpg

Things haven't been going well at BlackBerry for awhile, what with lackluster adoption of BB10 and the hardware running it, and rumors that massive layoffs are coming before the end of the year. Today, the company confirmed the latter rumor, announcing that it will lay off around 4,500 employees as a part of a plan to reduce its operating expenditures by half over the next year. The plan's necessitated by an expected Q2 2014 net operating loss of almost one billion (955-995 million) dollars, driven primarily by the lackluster sale of its BB10 phones -- the company will take a pre-tax charge of $930-960 million which can be attributed mostly to the failure of the Z10 to sell. BlackBerry expects revenue for Q2 to be $1.6 billion, which is roughly half of the $3.1 billion it pulled in last quarter.

Ill keep my Blackberry 3g 9300 as a "memory" of Blackberry (RIM when it was released). Kind of shame really about them. Never had a phone longer than 6 months before next one and i have BB for over 4 years now...

If only prices of Z10 werent as high as they can get in my country...

This is what happens when you are horrendously slow to adapt to a huge change in the market.

Just die already. I know I won't miss it as it was not only slow to catch up on features also painful to use for most of my friends who used this platform. Random reboots and unexplainable contact losses will make me assume you are a bad company pushing sub par products that have no place in this market. I won't feel even a bit bad if they were to just go bankrupt tomorrow...

I really like my Z10 but I am not a user that dicks around on my phone. The email, calling, and texting work great. I have great battery life on my phone. But as I said before I don't feel the need to play tons of games or just generally waste all my time on my phone. The email is what sells me on BB.
