Hyper 212 Evo wiggle?

Go to solution Solved by Moonzy,

if it wiggles, it means its not on tight enough

try tightening it a bit more, but dont break your board in half

but as long as the temps are fine, it shouldnt matter

Hello I have a fast question. I am using a Hyper 212 Evo I installed it last week for a new build. As one week passed I was going to install a new fan it "wiggled". Something like this:

Question is should I now remove and reapply new thermal compound. I tested the PC works fine. I used the thermal paste that came with the CPU sink.

The top answer is wrong,

THE 212 wiggles side to side a bit, due to how the mounting mechanism works.

That's perfectly normal, and nothing to be afraid of.

However, on other coolers that normally don't have that much wiggle, it can be a sign of too much thermal paste.

True. Mounting uses one central bolt connecting two scissor like brackets. There's source for wiggle.

And its completely fine. One good thing about thermal paste is that it moves along with cooler. So if you have enough, it will be fine.

And it is spring tensioned.

If you rotate it there should be no problem.  Tilting it enough to lift the plate could introduce air bubbles, which might reduce heat transfer and so could raise temps.

But if you are not actually having any issues then just leave it alone.
