I am 90% sure that I am going to get the r9 390 (MSI) GPU but I still want opinions so I don't make the wrong purchase

1. I have never had a AMD gpu before, what are the drivers like?  (Well I did, a r7 240. I am not counting that)

2. What is the temps like for the r9 390

3 Is the 970 a better choice overall?

Any comments welcome, Whatever the final lout come of this post, I'll buy it tonight

If you can buy a 970 for 300 or less go with that. If you can't, buy a 390

With all the replies piling up i am just going to comment.

1. Cant answer.

2. Dont know exactly right now without looking it up.

3. Yes imo.

However, i would recommend waiting! Give it a little more time as Pascal is said to be coming very soon, rumored to be released in June from what i hear. I know waiting is annoying and you might just want to game right now, but this would probably be worth it i think.

If you must get one now, i would say to get the GTX 970 (preferably EVGA or Gigabyte). Some people would not recommend this due to its "price to performance" comparison to the other card, however, to me, Nvidia's features make it worth it.

I've got a strix 960, I think its okay? Whats wrong with it?

long story short: the cooler on the 390 strix is bad the ucIII or how the call it 90+ with 20% more power limit other wise the card throttles at stock. And the cooler cannot cool the card had some situations were the fan was running 100% ( its server loud) and temps kept rising over 90 c

your 960 has a different cooler.

Im very happy with 390 I would have got a 390x instead and a different manufacturer like power color or xfx/ sapphire

btw if you can wait, wait for pascal/polaris
