nothing wrong, but there should be cheaper boards?

should also mention you're sticking with 970

CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212X

212X is only marginally better than the 212 Evo, if the price difference is huge then its not worth it

i would also stick with the stock cooler, unless it bothers you so much

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I saw a test, if you overclock that CPU and have that stock cooler, it will then go over 100c.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr

I found that a bit earlier and it seems like a great bargain if you are interested, apart from that,

1. Go with 1x8GB stick of RAM instead for easier upgradeability

2. Get windows from Kinguin for $30 if you weren't already

3. Get the 6600k for $15 more

Seagate hard drives? They have a reputation for failure. I heard one stat saying 30% failure rate after three years. I tried to find some hard data to back it up.

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-q4-2015/

Clearly it isn't that bad but they do significantly trail Western Digital, who I might add is almost the same price.

Just saying. Might want to consider getting WJ drives even if they are a few bucks more.

Oh wait! Sorry it is the i5 6600k!!!!!!

then the z170 board is fine

but you might wanna consider a beefier cooler if you wanna overclock, not going over 100 is a must

but personally i prefer not going 75c, 85c is absolute max for me

Alrighty. I will keep overclocking to about 3.7.. Anyway, for the hard drive, is the western digital blue or western digital black better than the seagate?

If so, should I get the blue or black? The black one is more expensive but I won't mind paying a few bucks extra..

3.7? isnt that lower than the boost clock?

i think my locked 6600 can do 3.7 on all cores when it turbo boost `-` never checked but firestrike says so

i'd get WD blue over WD black or seagate

because it's a good balance between reliability and price

Wait, so should I get unlocked or locked? Is it worth it? I can just turbo the locked one?

if you get the unlocked one, make it go to 4.5ghz or something

if you wanna get a locked one, the i5 6500 is a good sweetspot, the 6600 offers 100mhz more for $20~30-ish more

And also, I have never built a PC before and I actually want to do stuff like this as a job one day. Do you think that it would be reasonable to build it myself, or should I pay some guy $70 to build it?
