So I installed Linux and this came up:

either you did something wrong while installing, your install media is broken, or something inside the pc went wrong.

best case scenario is that you somehow botched the install. Worst case scenario is that you now have a dead hard drive.

All I did was press enter and it all worked. Boot drives fine, media's all there. All good.

I don't know about those alien characters, but the second screen usually means that the ISO was not well burned on your CD/pendrive during installation. 

 

Try to re-burn it and re-install the system.

Some people say that you should avoid using USB 3.0 during installation (I agree with that) and burn the ISO with the slowest speed possible (focusing on quality)(yeah. I don't really agree with this one. If the program you burned the ISO didn't do it properly, you should just find another program that does its job properly).

I used Rufus and a USB 3.0 drive. I'll try it again with a USB 2.0 drive.
