How to Optimize NVME Drive ?

TanmayHembram

We have heard of " defragmentation " the HDD . for SSD it is " trim "

Q1. Does the same trim is applicable for NVME .if yes How to. Which Software should I use for trim or windows 10 Optimize (at drive properties in tools ) is capable of trim ?

Problem : After installing Battle field 4 mistakely on C drive my one drive to another drive speed which around 1.85 Gbps decreased to 770mbps after some days i used my pc for 8 hours it performed around 300-400 mbps .

was it due to temperature rise or due to load in C drive since battle field is installed. Is there a solution to this ?

Device: Samsung 950 pro

Platform: Z170 pro gaming Asus

Cpu : i7 6700k

fans: 7 fan intake(120mm)  1outake(140mm)

ram: 16gb gskill ripjaws V ddr4

cooling cpu : Deepcool triple radiator temp 39 degree constant even after 8 hour

Q2. does one of these has any effect or it is NVME that needs to be trim ?

Trim and defragmentation aren't the same thing. Defragging is physically moving data around on the drive to fit it back together to make it easier(and faster) to access. Trim is removing any data that's "stale"(unused). Windows 10 performs automatic Trim already and this goes for SATA and PCIe SSDs.

TRIM support is built into Windows 10.  There's nothing you need to do to 'activate' it, or optimize for its use.

Might be temperature related.  I've heard of mSATA and M.2 drives being forced to derate significantly on account of not being equipped with heatsinks as may be found in SSDs in more "traditional" 2.5" HDD-like packaging.

try buying some cheap heatsinks from china and sticking them on :)

you can see the temperature of the drive in aida64, but that costs money :/

but you can get aida64 the "free" way but we cannot assist you with this, since it might be illegal in your country (not that they are going to go after you but still)

the 950 pro is known to overheat and puget systems recommends you put a heatsink on it :)

Strange, I've got the SM951 which going by rep runs hotter than your 950 pro and I've never seen performance drop like that...

It still throttles, but you are right, not by as much. The 950 Pro is a consumer edition, which means it has to be as fool proof as it can. So a more aggressive throttling is expected at this point.
