Should I upgrade from my Fx-8350?

I think you should get the 6600k and a z170 board (I think that's what they're called xp) a 6600k will last alot longer in gaming especially OC'ed

and np, at the ltt forums we are active like crazy xD

So I have had my pc for about 9 months I've loved it great for gaming which is what I mostly do. The reason I got the fx-8350 is because I heard so many good things about it and for a price I couldn't resist. I also wanted to future proof my rig as much as I could. Now that I've had time to use It I can see where it might fall short just a bit. Now that I've been gaming on it and I know that my graphics card (R9 290x) is still a good card that can handle most games very well, I'm starting to question. Was all the cores a good Idea? Most games from what I've seen while using aida 64 while gaming monitoring my cpu usage most games only run on a few of the cores. Which at the time of building I thought that games had progressed far enough to almost flawlessly use all the cores no matter what cpu you were on, quad, hex, or octo. Now I can see I was kinda foolish ofc at that point I was only into learning about pc hardware for about 1.5 months. Now here is what i'm debating should I keep fx-8350 and not be able to overclock it because I was stupid and bought the cheapest board that didnt have reviews that said broke after 1 week. Or should I sell my used very good condition fx-8350 and mobo (combo) and buy and new mobo and a intel core i5 6600k with a better board for overclocking? Will the extra cost be worth the gaming performance or am I just being stupid? All answers with incite or opinions will be valued ty.

6600k is way better than your current setup with the 8350

it is a good (edit: in fact great, for the deal you get for the price of the cpu) cpu, just with the board you have...

yeah the AMD FX ain't great for gaming...i had one and i was disappointed as well...upgraded from it after about 2 months...AMD cores are weak and slow and it does really hurt gaming performance.

My opinion would be to keep your FX for now and enjoy it, games arent going to use more than a few cores for awhile.

meh. Not worth it.

Tweaking the FX-8 series goes a long way.

Would definitely wait for new releases of CPU's coming. the performance difference will be minimal in most circumstances.
