PCIe video card for Windows XP Pro gaming rig

Dabombinable

What would be a good video card, that is cheap, for use under XP with older games? I was going to use a Riva TNT2 with my Abit VP6 and its hardware, but since its for my brother and he needs it for school work, and my Abit VP6 is nearing the end of its life, I need to use my spare LGA775 board which doesn't have integrated graphics. I'll be running it with a Pentium E6500K+3-4GB RAM and a 400-450W PSU.

Get a Radeon HD 5450. It has all kinds of different variants: PCI with 512MB of VRAM, PCI-e x1 with 1GB of VRAM and PCI-e x16 with 512MB or 1GB of VRAM.

And they are usually pretty cheap, so get it.

Athlon X2 for only 27.31$   Best part lists at different price points   Windows 1.01 running natively on an Eee PC

My rig:

Spoiler

Celeronator (new main rig)

CPU: Intel Celeron (duh) N2840 2.16GHz Dual Core

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz

HDD: Seagate 500GB

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000 Series

Spoiler

Frankenhertz (ex main rig)

CPU: Intel Atom N2600 1.6GHz Dual Core

RAM: 1GB DDR3-800

HDD: HGST 320GB

GPU: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3600

So far these are the cheapest while having VGA, would these be OK as well?

Since the motherboard has no iGPU, and any iGPU of the time was far worse than the video card, plus the fact that my brother is currently using a Pentium M770+Intel 915GML, its still an improvement.

Actually a GTX260 (or slower 9800/9600GT) can be great fit for a good Win XP setup games wise, or the more modern 5770/6770/6750/5750 (rebrand) that are also good if priced right (this were the first DX11 cards so if you would want to upgrade the os and run old DX11 you could do that too.

Personally i got a 5750 (outlet) new in the bag without the retail box for like 32 USD  (that is converted from NIS/ILS in my country for comparison ) and here finding cheap stuff is not easy. and that was 3 years ago. so I am sure you can find a decent used 5770 for a good price. this will run every XP era game without a problem with an ~80W use (if I remember correctly).

I can't remember the desktop name of it, but my laptop has the first mobile DirectX 11 GPU, a MR HD5650, which is an underclocked MR HD5770 (fixed that by increasing the core clock by 100MHz) , which is an underclocked desktop GPU. I'll see if I can find it.
