Air cooler configuration

Hi I am building a system with a 6600k and I want to know what the benifits of a tower cooler is compared to a low profile cooler e.g. noctua NH-L12 I will be over clocking although not a lot. Could I get away with a low profile cooler and what would I benifit from with a tower cooler? Thanks!

The bigger the heatsink, the better the cooling. Simple as that

for a locked processor, as long as the cpu doesnt thermal throttle, it doesnt affect performance

 

for an unlocked processor like yours, having a good cooler will mean lower temps, means higher overclocking headroom and possibly stability to allow you to push it further
