Question regarding terminology

Flowey

Allright so I was asking myself, while showering of course, why, if games are coded on PC, do we call about every game that release on consoles a "port". Like, if it's designed on PC, why would it be a port? i'm guessing it's designed on PC but not for common PC hardware, consoles optimized, and then ported to PC?

The fact that it is designed on PC doesn't mean it works on a PC. I'm not sure exactly how Sony and Microsoft do it, but I imagine they have an official emulator, or they just make devs test their games on an actual console.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

"ported" aka brought to from a different platform

console ports are coded for consoles using a different language that needs to be translated to work on PC

this is why even though the code is written with a computer, the games are tested on the consoles themselves

(although sometimes devs have special emulators or runtime environments to simulate console so that they can test parts of the game on the PC before compiling)

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

Thats what I figured, thx for confirming mah suspicions.

On a side note, I just told my father, who has been working with computers for over 25 years, that's he's going to need to get a new PS4.5 soon. He then said, and I quote "You ain't that much better, your going to need to upgrade each 6 months or so hahaha"

Dear god I'm afraid he's too long gone...
