overclocking question

so i havent done much overclocking with a graphic card just yet, And i was wondering can you damage your card without touching the voltage? i mean i was planning to just take babysteps to find out how high it can go and how high i'm willing to have it go

 

i have a gtx 660 sofar only tried clocking the core for +50 and memory for +250 in msi  afterburner

As long as you're temperatures are in check you should be fine. When overclocking your GPU you should be doing it in small steps anyway. A lot of people don't touch voltage until it becomes unstable and even then they just raise the power limit to +20%.

If your voltage is unchanged, the thing that would cause major damage to a video card is heat.

so as long as temp is fine i have nothing to worry about?

 

the max temp sofar when i've been running my current overclock was 79

 

and from what i've read/heard this card should be fine to handle  temperatures up to like 100 without any issues

I would keep it under 90c to be safe.

What is(are) your fan(s) at?

Just make sure the temperatures are good and that there are no flickering lines and stuff in games.

You might want to create a custom fan profile in Afterburner just to make sure that the card is staying adequately cooled.

probably yeah, guess i'll just have to raise the volume in headphones since even where it's at now ( 50%  ) it make quite high noise level
