For a pfSense AP (assuming my thing works) can i go pfSense Box > Switch > AP or do i need to go pfSense Box > AP > switch?

AP = Access Point,

pfSense = software router.

Router =/= Access point

the pfsense box is going to be part of your distribution layer, the switch and ap are access or desktop layer devices. if you have the port on the router have both the switch and the ap connected to the router. if you don't connect the ap through the switch.
