I am going for both general and gaming performance.  I already have a 1080P 23" AOC monitor that'll do for now but I'd like to get me a ROG Swift maybe a few months after building.  Also, not sure at all as to what I should use for wired network connection.  As far what type of games I plan on playing, stuff like Fallout 4 or Bioshock Infinite tends to catch my interest.

Budget:  $2000

Part list:

CPU:  i7 6700k

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

Mobo: Asus Z170a LGA1151

Memory:  G.skill Ripjaws V series 16GB (2X8) DDR4-2133

Storage:  WD Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM, 250GB Samsung SSD

GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 980ti Xtreme

Case:  Phantom 530 (red)

PSU: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Cert. Fully Modular ATX

Welcome to the forum! Consider saying 'hello' in the 'Off-topic' subforum and getting to meet other members.

That's a great build, but your budget of $2000 might allow for an AIO water-cooling loop or even a new monitor, as a GTX 980 Ti won't be stressed at 1080p.

Not sure why those WD Blue 1Tb's keep popping up.  Do you  really need a HDD?  Could you fit your system on a 480gb-500gb SSD?  Heck for a $2000 budget, going to a 1TB SSD might not be out of the question.

That's true, but I'd encourage him to opt for a 1TB SSD as well as more mass-storage if at all possible, even if it is only for backups and file storage. Perhaps a 2TB WD Caviar Green or something?

Also, Mushkin's Reactor 1TB SSD is about $200 right now- it's fast, reliable, and an absolute steal.

Very rarely (this might be my first time) do I come across someone posting a build here and not needing any changes.... not to mention your a first timer.

But you, my friend, have a VERY good build here.

Only thing I might suggest is you might want to consider higher frequency RAM. But that can be personal preference and you could probably OC that RAM anyways.

Kudos to you for building a great rig. I haven't got any real criticisms on it.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

People that ask if their build is good, but they do have a budget of $2000. This grinds my gears.

Your build is awesome.

To be clear, by the time I'm done saving up to my intended budget (projecting at about late June), it'll be $2000.  And thanks, I've been obsessively researching for about a month now as I save up my money and I want to be certain that I get it right for what I want.

My build started as The End All from the r/pcmasterrace list I found, but I pretty much changed most of the parts out on the PC Part Picker site as I did my research.  Looots of revisions. It took a long time just to decide if I was going to go with an R9 390x or a GTX 980, then I'm just like... screw it, I'm saving up anyways, I'll get the 980ti.  Then it was a matter of deciding WHICH 980ti and by who.

As for the HDD, I'll probably go ahead and replace it with an SSD since I hear those are less likely to fail.  I've heard that a lot of people just use their SSD's as boot drives and an HDD for everything else since HDD's are cheaper, but then I also hear that if I did that that I should have both drives have equal storage.

As for water cooling, I don't intend to overclock anytime soon, will air cooling be ok for that kind of setup?  I just hate the idea that I'll screw something up and get a big ol leak all over my parts.

Like I said, I'll be saving up for the ROG pg279q after I get the initial setup done.  I kinda wish I'd done more research before getting the monitor I have!  The particular AOC I got is an 23" IPS with a refresh rate of 60hz, which isn't bad per se, but I might'a waited til I had a more solid idea as to the type of build I wanted.  I thought about saving up for one of those ultra wide curved monitors, but ehh.. mayy just wait from the reviews I've watched on YT.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the OS I'll be going with is Windows 10 64 bit Home.  Not really sure if Pro is worth it for my purposes.

No, unfortunately I don´t think so. Can you link the psu?

http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=120-G1-0750-XR. Turns out to be the g1!  The pick list website wasn't specifying.  I see they have a G2 now, think I should go ahead and get that one instead?

Yes. G2 is much better than G1.
