I was never really a fan of the T420s to be honest, although I did use a T410s for a short time.:P

how can you not be a fan of it. It is the last gen ThinkPad with the original keyboard layout and the things you put in it, like at the time the worlds best dual core i7 with a NVS 4200m. That model is still kicking ass to day.

I don't like the build quality (cheap materials) and the mediocre keyboard. The speakers are pretty bad as well, and don't get me started on the display. Not to mention 16:9. At least there is a FHD IPS mod available now. It's still a good machine that I can easily recommend, and most people will probably disagree with my criticism. However, my demands are extremely high, even certain ThinkPads can't meet them.

I also don't care much for specs. I personaĺly prefer quality and craftsmanship, so one of my favorite ThinkPads is the X301, despite being very slow with its 10W SU9400. I also still use a T60 15" with LED FlexView display and a nice ALPS keyboard.

The build what? Yeah it is coverd in what feels like the build is bad, but that is only a shell. What is wrong with the keyboard? 95% of thinkpad people like that keyboard more than the new one because of the layout. I can understand the screen and speaker, but for 5 years since it was not that bad.

What are your demands?

The keyboard becomes shiny fairly quickly compared to older ThinkPads, has an unsatisfying feedback and is slightly mushy with more flex than I'd prefer. The Layout is definitely better than on newer machines, but I care more about the typing experience. Age is also not an excuse for bad screens and speakers. There are several even older ThinkPads that have better screens and speakers, such as my T60. (10 years old but has an IPS display)

I don't have specific demands that I could generalize, but it ultimately comes down to quality and as little cost-cutting as possible.

I just wish that they would make a power house like the t420s again, because the only laptops that have the power I need is the t460p and p40 top models and they cost a lot. Since the t460p throttles' down it's really only the p40. I would love if they could put the old keyboard layout on their new models
