this cant be real? banning effective encryption?

GreezyJeezy

my trustworthy friend posted this on facebook saying this is the dumbest thing ever and i agree

idk if this is real or not seems kinda fake unless people are just dumb

they want to pass a bill saying that pretty much any software made has to have a backdoor

Quote

the creation of any device that runs such software, and any service provider who sells such device and software to connect to their network would all be required by law to decrypt your data on short notice and provide it real-time to the government.

so rip security?

Governments (such as the UK government) have rejected new encryption standards because they were too effective. A lot of government representatives don't understand how encryption works. Often saying things like "we don't want backdoors, we just want to get by the encryption when we want to".

EDIT: Also, this isn't RIP to security or privacy. That happened a long time ago. Just ask the Icelandic or UK PM.

The issue is that politicians are put in charge of some very specified areas. Experts in the industry should be put in charge instead. What use is having someone who doesn't understand the technology in charge of making legislation for it.

First of all even if they will pass such law on the entire planet (not happening ever) those who will want to use real encryption will find a way to do so. So it will not solve anything that they think they will solve. And second of all those law makers in my opinion don't know anything about how technology and Internet works.

and then they dont even listen to the experts, they should be required to know about what they are trying to make bills about. man the world is pretty fucked.

the problem is: most of them are in the 50+ years old, they simply don't test every new technology, they use it most of the times the first time when the technology is out for like 10 years (such as smartphones, facebook, snapchat,...)

yeah we can only hope it will change as they all die off and the "new age" people get into office.

That could happen only in some kind of monarchy, never in democracy.

1984 here we come!

Even when tech bills and limits are passed, a great deal are over turned. Unlike walls and roads, the government just cant provide technology and devices so they get put in a pickle in a capitalist world. Since tech giants want to do this, consumers want this, it comes to a point when big brother gives in or over seas production picks up and individual users buy from over seas then the gov has very little say until they begin banning specific devices or trade.

Thats not how a bill works, regardless as soon as it does the lash back would be massive. The gov couldn't get a handle on apple, imagine if it was all the major giants (samsung, MS, apple, sony, amazon, google, etc) who all produce devices or systems that use encryption.

well they would have to if it got passed, or they would get into legal trouble.
