Best CPU complement for RX5600XT?

Go to solution Solved by Tetras,

i3-12100F would be fine for the vast majority of games if you don't want to spend much, but depending on your country, the 12400F is not much more (e.g. +$25) and the 6 cores makes it a safer CPU for longer-term use, while the 12600KF is a little more again (~$150) and would take a decent GPU upgrade (e.g. 7900 GRE) without being much of a bottleneck.

AMD alternative for similar money to the 12400 is the 5600 non-X/X.

A 7500F would get you more future CPU upgrades, but DDR5 would add to the build cost.

I am on a budget

on a budget can mean 300$, for some 600$ for some 900$ for some 1200$,

and the recommendations there will differ, the lower price will recommend older gen hardware

and used market recommendation at low budgets aswell

I think the i3 would be the optimal option for me, what motherboard would you recommend as well?

Thanks.

Okay, then what is the least amount of money i can spend so that the cpu is not the bottleneck?

400-600-800$? (counting entire or almost entire PC)

You know... rather than GPU complimenting CPU,

it would be much more useful knowing what you want to do on PC, play games, do something creative?

Esports games, story games, whatever games.

I'm running a H61M-VS motherboard right now with Pentium G630 CPU, I want to play games like fortnite, siege, red dead 2, ghost of tsushima, elden ring. I'm not looking for 1440p experience, 1080p is fine with me. The best CPU on the 1155 socket is i7 3770K, I'm not sure about its performance for games though, is it good?

I will be using the PC for rendering also, but the gpu will take care of that part i think.

Well, something cheap or you're wasting your time buying the i3.

If you plan to upgrade the CPU & memory later and need lots of storage (M.2 + SATA) then it might be a false economy to buy cheap, but otherwise.

Since you're getting a 12th gen CPU, one option is to look at B660/Z690 boards, since there are usually some decent clearance deals available on these.

H610 boards are available very cheaply, but you'd really want to stick with an i3 or i5 for those, as their VRMs are often basic and lack heatsinks. Many of them also have only 1 M.2 slot, which is silly. My suggestion would be to pay a bit more for a B660/B760 board that has at least 2 M.2 slots, a VRM heatsink and isn't full of USB 2 ports on the rear I/O.

country?

budget?

used 5600(x) + used b3/450, cheaper than a 12400f but performance is similar or if overclocked better due to the lousy clocks on the 12400f despite the better ipc, new b450 is also an option if available for cheap enough and is not a bottom of the barrel pos

looking on ebay, the 3770K Starts at 60 bucks...

and that's super fuckin' not worth the price for a 12 year old processor.  (If you find one for 20-30?  Might be worth the price, but fuck no at 60+ bucks)

Sorry for not mentioning my budget right now is around 80$.

I am planning the build for the future, as this budget will definitely not be enough for the latest gen parts.

I think i7 3770 is a good short-term solution. it's around 35-40 bucks where i live (Georgia, country).

With the leftover money im gonna buy RAM.

might be able to get those for abit cheaper

I sold a 5500 with the MB and 32GB of DDR4 at 3200Mhz for 150$

That would had been a good rig for your.

Looking at the game benchmarks from videos, there's roughly 5-10% performance difference, and in my market they are almost exactly the same price, like 4$ difference, so i think 3770 is gonna be it. I hope you meant i7 2600 cuz thats what i compared it to.
