Hello Everyone,

This will be my first post on this site! Been following Linus on YouTube for a long time.

I work at a small computer company and we got a request to build a gaming and video editing PC. He only put that. And that he wanted to have a sound card in it. I will try to get more information from him, but for now, I have one or two builds that I want to get some advice on. I have done research into parts, however constructive criticism is always welcome.

I do not know what he wants to spend on the rig. However, he seems like he does not know exactly what he wants, so we tried to tell him that a good video editing pc build could be anywhere from $1200 to $2200 (including labor). This build is mainly geared towards video editing, with 2 SSDs, and a good graphics card and i7. (Might be able to sub out the power supply for a cheaper one, but I like to play it safe.) He specifically mentioned a sound card, so I did some research and found that Creative Labs produce good sound cards. So this would be a higher end build, this would be the second build I suggest. (He will probably not want to splurge so much, but I love designing builds, so I can not help myself in preparing 2-3 builds for this guy. )

Note: I have read mixed reviews on the Skylake processors. I have heard that its performance is more than enough for the price, but others say that Skylake is not much better than its Haswell counterpart. I'd like to think that for the price, Skylake more future proof, and the k model will help if he wants to overclock, but again very expensive. I like to debate, so please enlighten me!

I will post a lower end build later.

Apologies for the PC part picker formatting.

Honestly I do not know the processor will bottleneck, or theres not enough ram?  Or maybe I should get a better graphics card to better pair with the i7 k? The case fan is probably not needed, but its always good to have better air circulation right? I could probalby knock off $50 and get the i7 6700?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Video editing? Get the 5820k. V300s are horrible ssds, don´t get them. PSU is over priced. 390>970 unless you absolutely need the marginally less power consumption and CUDA.

Moreover this is more geared towards gaming rather than video editing.

32GB of memory is not reasonable for a $900 build. Go with 2x8GB and put the money into a better psu or gpu.

I would not bother with an unlocked cpu for a low end build like this.

The Hyper 212 EVO cpu cooler will not fit comfortably in Corsair Spec-02 case. It is 1.5mm taller than the Corsair max cpu cooler height.

A hyperthreaded Xeon would be a better choice for a system that will be used for editing.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Wells goes to show. I need to do more research. I dismissed most of the Xeon and Pentium processors as osbolete. But I had no idea it had hyperthreading technology. Cool, thanks for the help everyone!
