If you don't know how to start one, you probably shouldn't be configuring one....?

Windows Server is the best for Domain Services - I use Windows Server 2016 at home personally in my home lab.

Eseentially you

- Install Windows Server

- Install the AD-DS & DNS Roles

- Promote the server to a Domain Controller

- Configure your forest and domain

- Configure your DNS forward & lookup zones

- Do the same for any additional DC's you want to add to your forest

This should help:

I feel that this would be faster and better to read about as an individual in a book, I have done it on a 2008 version if memory serves and its just too much information to tell, you can try youtube or maybe download a book and just read like the installation portion, after all reading never dies people just prefer to ask instead of research.

oh man, AD install is basically just "Next, next, next, finish" and typing things in that it asks you, which don't require a lot of thought apart from domain. Basically all roles are like that.

Just run dcpromo if you're on 2008r2 or lower. If on 2012/r2 install the role and it'll prompt you to promote after you're done
