I am a small YouTuber, I have a laptop, it is an Asus K52f, I think but don't know Forster, it has an Intel Pentium P6200, with 4GB ram, Arrandale Intel HD Graphics, I have the latest version of OBS Studio, formerly OBS Multiplatform, and I am wondering how I would go about recording and streaming at 720p or higher, because the highest resolution that I have yet to achieve is 360p, and I have messed with almost every single setting I could mess with, tried most combinations that make sense, and so on...so I am wondering what settings I need to change to what to record and stream in 720p or higher...

That hardware isn't really good for gaming, let alone trying to stream... I guess you could try using Intel Quicksync?

I know, it's not the best, but I'm saving up for a better computer right now, but mot quite there yet...and for your information, I get well over 200FPS on Minecraft with all highest settings except for render distance...and that is a very resource demanding game...so, do you know what settings I need to change to stream/record in 720p or higher, or not? If not, I didn't ask for your opinion, if so, please elaborate...

he is just trying to point out that streaming with your hardware is cutting it close. Minecraft is not a very gpu intensive fame, and thus I bet if you try to stream other games you will have problems.

as for the question, try lowering the bit rate and seeing where that gets you.

OBS is pretty hard on cpu, so your cpu might not be able to handle OBS and gaming at the same time (even modern i5 might face problems on intensive games lol)

its best if you just start streaming when you have a better computer tbh

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Livestreaming at 30fps, 720p, you can go up to 3500kb/s bitrate maximum. I would recommend 2800kb/s bitrate, using Intel Quicksync. But for local recording, you can increase the bitrate to say 30000kb/s for better quality.

It depends on what he's using to encode the video stream. x264 hits the hardest. Intel Quicksync will have less of an impact, but have worse quality than x264.

Regardless, for livestreaming, x264 is still king, for stream quality. And for local recording, GPU encoding (Nvidia NVENC/ AMD GVR) with a high bitrate is the way to go,

But OP only has the option of x264, or Intel Quicksync with that laptop of his.

I can record and stream at the same time, while playing Minecraft, and 4 tabs open in google chrome, while listening to Spotify just fine...so please stop telling me that my hardware isn't good, but tell me what settings I need to change, hell, I'm even fine with streaming at 360p or 480p, but I want to record at 720p...

You probably won't be able to stream much past 480 with a system like that. And forget about it entirely if you try to play any other games besides minecraft. If you want to record at 720, you probably won't be able to stream simultaneously.

Ok, if I'm recording, I most likely won't be streaming too, after all, if I need the footage from the stream, I can just download it from YouTube...

Use Intel Quicksync if you're looking for performance. The quality will be a bit worse. Use x264 if you want good stream quality but likely worse performance. If you had an nvidia for AMD discrete graphics chip you would get the advantage of GPU encoding (well, for local recordings anyway.) Well, I would lean towards Quicksync or a better computer.

Ok, I'm not looking for the best stream quality, hell, I'm fine with 144p for stream quality, but I want at least 720p for my recordings...
