Good Gaming PC?

DGB
Go to solution Solved by stconquest,

@DGB

Well you built it, so slow down the idea of spending more money.

The first thing that will hinder your gaming performance is the GPU.  That 730 is really weak, like iGPU weak.  You would have been better off going with an i5 6500 and not getting a GPU at all.

Play your games, and if performance is fine, leave it.  Again, the GPU will be the first problem you encounter when gaming.

Edit:  I just noticed you already had the 730.

I just built this rig a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering if it will suffice.

The video card will be changed to an R9 380. The 730 was an old one that was lying around my house.

Its ok. But you could have gotten a core i3 4170 with a z87 mobo.

Well it's a solid build to play most AAA titles but it might be better to get an amd fx 6350 and overclock it for more cpu intensive tasks and rather than getting 2 8gbs sticks get one and spend it on a ssd because you will definitely notice a different with boot up times and 8gbs ram is enough for most games unless you're running lots of programs at once.

Anyway you can get another 8gbs stick later. :)))

In total I spent $500 on my rig and got a R9 280x and a FX-8320 with a keyboard and mouse, 16gb of ram, case, and an SSD with a hyper 212 evo with a power supply and a motherboard. How on earth did you spend $550 on a build that performs significantly worse then mine?

di you buy used? because the r9 280x cost $300-400. the 8320 cost $170 and an ssd isway more expensive than a  1tb hdd. that is already way over 500$

Then u cant say " How on earth did you spend $550 on a build that performs significantly worse then mine? " because its totally irrelevant.

If you're going to spend to get a FX-4350, get a Pentium G3258 as it can OC up to 4.7 GHZ with the Hyper 212 evo.

Also, if you're only gaming and some light recording and rendering you only need 8GB of RAM.

Use those $30 that you saved and get a better GPU like a 950ti or r7 360.

Also, if you OC the pentium, consider a better quality PSU.

If i change the CPU i would have to change the mobo and I want one with a lot of expandability so it would be a waste and i have 16 gigs because i tend to run many applications at the same time and when i look at the memory usage, 8-9 gigs are being used.

@DGB

Thank you for getting the point. The GPU is going to be the main upgrade in this build to an R9 380. I know the 730 sucks but it manages fine in less intensive games at 1080p. The cpu will be the next upgrade going to the 8-core 8350 for AAA titles that require that cpu on the AMD side.

I would argue against the FX upgrade to another FX.  Those CPUs are so many generations behind in performance it is not funny.  Save up for something that is fast and more current:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($174.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($69.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $244.88
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-04-06 19:22 EDT-0400

You can use the FX 4XXX CPU to make an HTPC or something.  The CPU, the mobo, the GT730, some crap 250GB 7200 RPM drive, 4 GB RAM and that EVGA 500W(that needs changing sooner than later as well) in a cheap case makes a good media center.
