Hello LinusTechTips Forums!

I recently built a new system that has the following components:

I7-5820k

16gb Corsair Vengance Lpx

MSI 980 4GB OC

Corsair h100i v2

Evga 750 g2 SUPERNOVA

MSI X99A SLI PLUS

I was talking to my friend who is the only person other than myself I trust with my computer.  He was helping with something and asked what board I had. When I told him I had an MSI, he goes " Oh I'm sorry you're stuck with an MSI mobo" he said that they can act up a bit and give problems.  I read reviews and saw mostly positive things about the board.  I just want to know what some other opinions are on MSIs motherboards.  Thanks!

I'm using an MSI Z97-SLI Krait in a home server (yes, I know it's not a server or workstation board and no, I don't care), and it's been a complete champ running 24/7 for a year. I have no qualms nor worries about it.

while i am an asus man myself, i have used a few msi boards in builds ive done for people in the past, and only ever had one problem, and that was a dead mobo on arrival, but that was probably shipping. he sounds biased.

I've never had a problem with an MSI board and I've used not only pretty high end ones, but also the dirt cheap ones, you'll be fine.

In past msi boards had issues mainly with not lasting over 3 to 4 years...

Now they are getting more and more popular and I guess better...

For example for z170 low ends asus had most mixed reviews of all...

Depends on generation and luck all should be fine... check which company offers best package for you...

I went with gigabyte and I am pretty happy about it and yeah before had asus board that is still kicking after 8 years...
