GTA V Loading Times

Go to solution Solved by Hasle,

I just timed my loading times from my Samsung 850 Pro:

From desktop, to main menu: 51,22 seconds

From main menu to end of loading screen (cloud-zoom-in): 24,70 seconds

Heya,

I've had GTA V on PC ever since its release, and I'm getting quite tired of the ridiculously long loading times. I run it from a regular 2TB HDD.

Would there be any noticeable difference in loading time if I was to run it from an SSD? I would test it, but my current SSD is only used as a boot drive, and does not have a high enough capacity for me to move a 60GB game over to it.

Thanks for reading!

My Samsung 850 EVO loads into story mode in about 25 seconds, so yeah.

Ryzen 5 1600 - GTX 980 Ti - Broke.

How long was it since you last did a full defrag on your HDD, the loading times arent too long on my HDD

Its been longer than I should have left it, but my loading times haven't really changed at all since getting GTA (which I got about 2 weeks after building my current PC)

Totally agree. I feel like I haven't used it since Windows 98... back then the difference was night and day. These days... ehhh.. SSDs have spoiled me.

You can still get the defraging experience if you optimize your SSD, although it only takes a few secs and only improve performance by a very small amount

I'm not sure what you mean by optimizing my SSD. Do you mean defragmenting it?

I originally had it on my HDD but got incredibly annoyed at load times and re-installed in on my samsung ssd. There was a nice speed increase but loading is still +1 minute to get into a single player game. R* needs to work on their load times; I don't care if I'm particularly waiting for the city of LA to load in game! :P

Mutiplayer is still shit...

  • 3 months later...

I know this is an old thread, but I'll chime in anyway, since I've been trying to optimize my GTA V loading times for months now, and it's been frustrating to say the least.

In the meantime, I have changed my motherboard, I've reinstalled Windows 10 multiple times, redownloaded GTA V, tried different graphics card drivers (as I had randomly occurring crashes with my previous Windows 10 install), but my loading times are as follows.

Wait for it...

SEVEN minutes.

Yes, seven minutes, be it single player or Online. Sometimes, if it's not the first time since boot, it falls down to 4 minutes.

My system: GA-Z77X-UD5H, MSI GTX970 4G, 16 GB of RAM, Windows 10 Build 1511 running off an EVO 850, GTA running off a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm HDD.

Has anybody here experienced a similar issue? Any hints? Thanks so much in advance.

(these loading times are particularly unnerving, because I always leave the desk when loading GTA V - I'm not sitting around there for seven minutes - and when I come back, I'm usually kicked from GTA Online for idling. Grrrrr)
