How many folks tried moving their rigs into a smaller case and was it worth it performance, time, and cost wise?

I know it's a pain in the ass to do so (previously moved my rig from a Rosewill Redbone U3 to the define R5). I am lusting over the smaller cases like the Node 202 and RVZ02, which I wish would've existed back when I was building my rig.

Unless you need to move your PC somewhere, you don't need to move your PC into a smaller case. If you do, you need to buy a new motherboard, (cooler and GPU if they conflict with the case), not to mention that you'll be giving up upgradeability and airflow

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

@Fgtfv567Not necessarily true if you do your homework and look at what you want  i have recently just done that.

I have gone down from a HAF-X (bought it due to needing EATX support and high airflow as I had a 3930k overclocked on air using an I30 cooler and needed the depth ) I have come down to a corsair carbide 400c which also takes EATX as does the NZXT H440 both will take a dual rad for water cooling. thermal requirements have changed a great deal the last tear or two.
I agree that you could end up coming unstuck, just look at what you need and plan it out before taking the plunge . I decided i no longer need an optical drive on this build  as i have other pc's in the house i can burn a disc on if i needed to , i also have a usb optical drive if it came to it)

Placed side by side ytou could almost get 4 of the 400c cases in the HAF-X but the new build is far more powerful that the last, the temps are just as good due to the newer cooler

Family is Everything ....But a fast pc with an SSD is NIce

Not from EATX to ATX, I'm talking ATX all the way down to mini ITX drastic. From your situation, I agree with you
