Figured I would check here before making an account on Synology's forums.

I'm replacing some computers for my family, so I bought the gear needed and set it all up on a subnet at my house. This way I had a complete functioning system that would be plug and play... and it was working great at home, left on for a few weeks just to be sure the backups completed as planned, no hardware issues, etc.

Today I took it all out to the feedyard and installed the Synology unit and will be doing one computer at a time, about an hour into transferring program data to the new computer the internet drops out, Chrome gives me a DNS error. After some troubleshooting I found that the internet doesn't work whenever Cloud Sync is uploading files to OneDrive.

I tried un-linking and reconnecting the sync job, using Google Drive as the target, and even limiting the upload and download speeds to 1kbps, all to no avail.

Any ideas?

Its probably your router. If I was to hazard a guess its using UDP to communicate and quite a few routers I have owned (Netgear) seem to fail if there are too many UDP based connections. Sometimes torrents cause a similar problem. The end result is that the router will lock up or stop passing traffic and it might manifest as low RAM available on the router although all I have ever seen is just the maximum amount of allowed individual connections and quite often broken connections.

What is your setup? Are you using a switch in between the computer and the synology?

My native language is C++

I forgot to mention there is a setting to specify the number of connections, the lowest I was able to limit it to was 3 and that did not help. I presume the maximum number of connections should be well over that on even a fairly modern router right?

From what I understand it is using TCP over port 443.

Actiontec F2250 DSL Modem > Linksys E2500 Router > TPLink TL108SE Switch.

The computers and Synology are on the TPLink switch, I have not tried moving them around, but wireless connecting to the E2500 still yields no internet. I'm pretty confident it isn't the switch causing the issues since it worked just fine when it was at my house connected in the same way. Still worth a shot to try it plugged into the E2500 next time I'm up there.
