Today me and a friend created his Frankenstien after the PSU in his 8 year old system died.

So so we found this old case at the DI with a totally dead system in it. Oh man it was old. It used DDR1!

though it had this 160GB hard drive. Why don't they make black hard drives? Seriously!

But MAN was that the dustiest machine I've ever worked on. It was slightly cleaned before I got it, then I took an entire can of compressed air and cleaned t myself. it also used these hilarious IDE cables

Also we're all so used to those block style connectors for USB, Audio, etc. but the front panel connectors are always a pain, the separate cables just frustrate anyone. Well... EVERY single connector on this case had individual pins. We had to look up outlet new motherboard manual and figure it each and every pin one by one. It was terrible.

Then when we finally used it today we wiped it down and used about 40 Clorox wipes that were all just black with dust. Oh man it was dusty. But we slowly deconstructed and wiped down every part.

There were some interesting things I want to point out about this case. First off there were tooless mounts for nearly everything. Very surprising. It also had this hilarious chipset fan with the shortest blades I've ever seen!

Remember that dust? Here's the graphics card.

My friend picked up a mobo with an old dual core AMD chip. It's a few years old but dang man. let's get AM3 out already! I could pop this chip into a brand new AMD motherboard and it'll work. Haha:)

i didn't get a good picture but you can also see the VRM's and chipset are cooled by a massive copper heat pipe and heat sink. Pretty sweet! That's something you don't see on anything anymore. We also didn't have a new I/O sheild so eh. It's fine;)

We we reapplied the thermal paste and cleaned out the dust on the new graphics card and CPU coolers and here's the final build. Yeah we didn't really care about cable management because this will be a secondary system for friends to play some old games with him.

 it posts!

Haha it was just kinda fun scrounging around my computer collection stealing ram and everything I thought I'd share it with you guys! What do you think?

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.
