Help with my friend's PC

DanielPC

Hi guys.

So my friend has been bugging me about helping him pick out parts for a pc for about a year.  Unfortunately I got caught up with school so I've been delayed until now.  I've built my own pc and really got into pc building about a year ago but I haven't spent much time on it recently so I decided to come here for help.

I happen to have 8gb of RAM which is fine for what he needs.  He also has a old pc which we are going to scrap to get the case and then retrofit the case.  I have to take a look at the pc myself to see if the case will do but for now I'm leaving a case out of the parts list.

My friend created his own parts list and I recently quickly edited it with the knowledge that I have.  I came here for people to help me with my friends quest for a pc.

What it will be used for:

My friend decided that he would like to mainly play open world games such as simcity 5 and something called no mans sky.  Knowing him I would have to guess that he will most likely probably get into games such as rocket league and maybe the occasional fps games but these will be mainly played on his console since this is where the rest of our friends play.

Here is the parts list:  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jNNnkL

Is the RAM you have DDR4 cause otherwise it won't work? Also is the case the proper form factor?

380/X is going to be faster than a 960

and this includes a free-sync 144hz 1080p display

Also don't buy an OEM key if you're buying a windows key, as it should only work once.

K part might be worth it for the 144hz display, but, overall maybe not as the competitive games that matter are going to run at 144fps anyways without the overclockable CPU

maybe jump up to the i7 6700, which turbos to 4ghz if you can find it in the budget, also there's still some room here

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I am almost sure the RAM is and I was going to check tonight anyway.  The case I have to check on which is why I haven't ruled out having to buy a case.

How old is the PC you removed it from because chances are it IS NOT DDR4 and is likely DDR3.

I actually didn't remove the RAM as it was from my cousin.
