Network speed dropped significantly

FruitBasketSilex

So, my network speed has dropped significantly sometime in the past, not terrible sure when. I've gone from 7mb/s download speed to 2.5-3.2mb/s. There was possibly a windows resintallation in that time, so i'm not sure if that was it. Just simply trying to get my internet speed back ujp to what it was at. Any ideas on what it might be, or suggestions for things that could help?

whats the speed directly from your modem? whats your speed directly from your Router? Run a speed test from those two plus from your current setup where you think its slowing down.

I had an issue like this but can't be sure if its the same one.

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

I assume that would involve me plugging my computer straight into the output of the modem?

The speed directly from my router is ~3mb/s at best, as that's what i'm currently getting. It used to be ~7mb/s. All running over ethernet.

yes plug it directly into the router, AND in your modem (two separate tests, a LOT of my issues were router based, so knowing what your getting from the router, then the modem , before your network even comes into play, is important to know).

Did you just test it by directly plugging in? I dont think you would know the speeds from router+modem if you didnt know for sure you plug directly into it.

The ~3mb/s is from Modem->Router->PC with all other network devices online. Gimme a second to try going directly from the modem to my PC.

I figured. I had this happen before and its annoying AF. Still happens once a month.

The only thing that would fix this for me was a complete router reset, although a reboot could also fix it, so try that first.

Alrighty. Do you know what router settings might be making this happen? I remember a while ago my friend somehow made my entire network implode when I told him to power cycle the router, and that required alot of modem rebooting, router rebooting, and several router resets before the network came back up.

Specific router in question is a WNR2000v4. Not a PK5000Z like I thought.

I could never figure it out, searched every possible thing and couldn't find any information about it. I have another issue where I randomly lose internet and its because my Modem decides to randomly stop detecting my router and refuse to do so until i do a modem reboot, but I never found a link between the two. Its frustrating not being able to know what causes the issue but knowing how to fix it and not knowing why it works.

EDIT: im also not familiar with CenturyLink's interface. Im only familiar with Cisco home and commercial routers/switches, and Netgears home routers (Im currently using an R7500)

Router is refusing to start up or something.

It's lights are on as normal, the modems lights are on as normal, and the link light is flashing, but the router is putting out a wifi signal, but not allowing any traffic.

Nothing in/out. Unable to access router page via 192.168.1.1

turn off router, turn off modem, wait a minute or two, turn on modem, wait like 2 minutes, then turn on router, and wait for it to boot up. Are those the steps your following?
