Hi,

I'm thinking about building a rig with a GTX 980 Ti SLI setup for 4k gaming. However, is there any news about the capacity for the upcoming Pascal chip to push 4k gaming? Any news on frame rates with 4k games running Pascal, for example?

EDIT: I should also note that I'm wanting to play 4k games on Ultra settings.

Thanks,

Joseph.

Either pickup a couple 980ti's instead of the X80ti's due to price, and the lack of dx12 performance nvidia will be toting,

or jump to the dark side and go amd for their superior dx12 performance. (Seriously guys, pascal doesn't have hardware support for a-sync, meaning amd's polaris will kick its ass in dx12. Just like the 390 beating the 980ti in dx12 now)

when pascal comes out buy two 980 ti. they will drop price.

I'd be fucking surprised if they did. Nvidia's notorious for their rock solid prices. The only reason the GTX 970 dropped was because AMD pressured them to.

I for one am hoping that the Pascal architecture will be strong enough to make single GPU 4K @ 60fps+ a reality...

But logic tells me this will not be :(

Pascal will be good... but mainly GP100. What I am most excited for is Volta. That one has a chance to be legendary.

With Pascal's stacked vRAM it's probably going to be geared/marketed specifically for 4k, but we really don't know how long we'll be waiting for that line of GPUs to come out.

Without MSAA (honestly at 4k you shouldn't need it), a 980ti should do you fine, or try to hunt down a titan x or r9 39xx.

I will say, if you are reasonable with your expectations and don't require ultra details, a single 980 TI plays pretty darn well at 4k+.

I have 3 1600p monitors and my total desktop resolution is 8,120x1600 (with bezel correction).  That is 50% more pixels than 4k (4k has 8 million, my displays are 12 million).

I am able to play Grand Theft Auto V on all three screens at medium to high detail at 40+ FPS smoothly on a single EVGA GTX 980 TI SC card.

It won't do it with everything turned up, AA has to be off, some of the texture and shadow details are on medium or high, but darn it, it looks really, really good driving around blowing stuff up.
