Building a 4k setup for 2000, but i have questions..

Guest

Well, I was walking the other day and

I had an idea

instead of a 6 core rig and an expensive usb which is kinda crappy setup,...

maybe lower a bit and go from there...

I have a new build here, and if its good or not tell me please.

A lot of it depends on what games you are going to play. I have a 31in 4k (4096*2160) monitor With two GTX 980 classifieds in sli i get around 55-75 fps in GTA 5 and about the same with BF4 on the 4k so if you're playing graphically intense games AND recording, maybe. You'll really be pushing it to get 30 fps in those games while not recording. In my opinion frame rate is more important than resolution. Also 4k on windows can be a real pain in the ass because most of the display scaling is horrendous.

CPU: Core i7 4770K @ 3.5GHz Motherboard: ASUS Z87-EXPERT RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) 1600 MHz GPU(s): EVGA GTX 980 Classified SLI Case: Coolermaster HAF X Storage: Samsung 256 GB 840 Pro, 2x2TB WD Caviar Black, 2x4TB WD Green PSU: Corsair AX860 860W Display: LG 31MU97-B 4K(4096x2160) and Dell S2716DG 27in 2K 1440p 144hz, Cooling: Noctua NH-D15 Keyboard: Corsair K70 with Cherry MX Blue switches Mouse: Razer Naga Epic Chroma and Death Adder Chroma Sound:Audioengine D1 Dac and Sennheiser HD650 Operating System: Win 10 Pro

From what I've heard a 980ti should get you to around 4k 60fps in a lot modern games. What games specifically do you intend on playing? Do you mean recording for youtube or streaming for twitch or both?

The way you have it should be good for all the games you mentioned (in 4k) except for maybe GTA V and Fallout 4. As for CS Go its better to have a monitor with a faster refresh rate (120hz+) but since FPS aren't the games you'll be primarily playing, you're good. In my experience gaming at 4K is amazing for the first 10-20 min. and after that you don't even notice unless you are looking for it. Personally I'd go with the (1440p 144hz) Acer Predator XB271HU ($769.99) and a MSI GeForce GTX 970 Twin Frozr V ($295.00). So you get an ips display for color accuracy and the lower resolution will be easier to run games at 60 fps while recording. You also wont need display scaling for windows which will be necessary on the 4k 27in. If you're set on 4k then go for it. Watching a 4K video on a real 4k screen is impressive 100% of the time, especially on an ips screen.

Trust me a 24in 4k monitor is going to be way too small (waste of pixels). Even 27in is a bit small for 4k. The power supply is total overkill unless you put  another GFX cards in there and overclock everything, a Corsair AX860 should more than enough for this build. If I were you i'd get 2x16GB sticks instead of 4x8GB because if you want to upgrade down the road you have to get rid of the old sticks of ram which will be worth less if you want to sell them. Everything else looks good.

Get this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx980tigaming6g or any card with multiple large fans instead of the base 980ti if you go that route. The stock cooler sounds like a jet engine. I imagine noise is important while editing.

MooCow, I have in my thread why I have the 1000w PSU, it's partly due to around late 2016 I will most likely go double SLI, and due to the fact that I will have other PCI-e units and are currently unaware of their power consumption.
