Is it overkill for this system?

This is my build

 

Currently I have a corsair cx 750 80 + bronze powering my system [spec below] . Is it too much? (I got a good deal on the psu and thats why I bought i)

You won't need more than a 500W PSU to run that rig with a GTX 970 at full load - and that's including headroom.

 

Since you already have the PSU, just keep it.

Machine likely peaks out at 350-400W if you had the CPU running full blast, HDD, and video card.  Yeah you could get away with less, but I don't think I'd say "overkill".

for your rig, the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W is a good unit

Well 750W is a bit overkill, but it's not a good PSU to "overkill" with. The CX750 is pretty mediocre, to be honest.

I was thinking about getting but there was a sale at  microcenter and I snagged my current psu for like $35 when msrp is usually like $79+ (usa prices)

its not THAT bad, but its just not good enough to power a high end rig for a long period of time

if the power supply is working its not drawing anymore power than what the system demands of it ,,, dont worry about it. its fine, but yep overkill in the overall view of things.
