CPU overheating when gaming

My PC was built est. 2 years ago on Dec 2013 with a i7-4771 with stock CPU cooler, a Gigabyte GTX 660TI on a GIGABYTE H87M-D3H motherboard.

I have recently seen an issue with my CPU temps going as high as 93-95 degree celcius after playing games such as rocket league for 30 minutes or so. Is it normal for my 4771 to be this hot with Turboboost on?
Without turbo boost on, the results are in the photo. Tested with rocket league too.

What would be a good solution for this or do I not need to worry about it. I have a shitty Sharkoon VS3-S case that is not in production and I don't think it supports any aftermarket cpu coolers. Someone please help me.

i suggest try re-applying thermal paste, maybe its performance degraded after so long

if you cant get aftermarket cooler, you should limit your processor's power if you're concerned about temperature

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

wel stock coolers are kinda crapy

But it should hold it under 85°C at all times.

So maybe try to remove it, and apply thermal paste again.

But for i7 I would suggest you to get some better cooler.

Things I've done earlier today, cleaned the fan and heatsink and have reapplied thermal paste using a MX-4.

Will look into getting a new case and getting an aftermarket cooler if that's the cheapest solution now.

Will keep in mind the 85degs.

If possible give me some recommendation for a good case. I have the hyper 212 evo in mind right now for my cpu cooler.

if you want a budget case, corsair 200R or nzxt s340 is decent

if you want a more premium case, H440 or N450 from nzxt, or define S or R5 from fractal design

You can fit a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO in there just fine.

So go buy one for 20-25$ and watch how your thermals go down.

Oh really, you have an experience with this particular case? Sharkoon VS3-S?? If possible could you provide me a picture of it. I can't find any source of hyper 212 evo being able to fit in there because there is barely any space for me to install metal plate at the back of the motherboard.

Will consider 200R because I have an optical drive too. Thanks dude!

your case supports cooler up to 160mm, EDIT: its the sharkoon VS4, not VS3, im sorry

the 212evo is 159mm

so it should be fine

also, the backplate is usually fitted in between the motherboard and the motherboard panel, where there are space due to the motherboard standoffs, so it should be fine :D

I can't tell whether it would have enough space to install the backplate.

EDIT: It is a VS3-V I got the model mixed up

XDD if only I had a high enough budget. Will consider getting a cooler tomorrow and test it out. Thanks!

if you're concerned about the height, a NH-L12 is a good cooler, though it might cost too much tbh lol

might as well get 212 evo + a new case :P

Since your case is VS3-V and not VS3-S, that means that the Hyper 212 EVO won't fit.

VS3-S has maximum height of 155mm. 212EVO is 159mm.

Yikes, yeah kinda expected that. Thanks though. I didn't really look into the case when I was buying this pc.. Looks like I will get a new case instead.

Since you're low on budget, look for Thermaltake Versa H21/22/23/24/25. They are very cheap cases and offer great basic modularity and space for many different coolers. (they are all the same, just different looking front panels)

just go to something like Sim Lim or funan or some IT mall

then find a case that you like that supports a tall air cooler like the 212 evo

you can do so by going online and check the case's specs, it should write cpu cooler clearance or something of that sort

Yeah will do so. Praying that it will be below 150SGD..

a case below 150sgd? thats quite a lot to spend on a case lol
try the bitfenix neos? its not that costly and i think it fits the 212 evo

Nah like cooler + case 150SGD. If my budget for a case was 150 I wouldn't have this much of an issue haha

well that case is like RM180-ish, and 212 evo is like rm70-ish

should be able to fit both in your budget if converted to sgd, i dont know about prices in sg >.>

heh. Prices are off the roof. Can't seem to find 212 evo in the 4 price list I have with me only 212X which is 55SGD for the cheapest one ~RM161

EDIT: Looked at their SG distributors too. Don't seem to carry that case

well the 212x is just a 212 evo with slightly better fan, and goddam that pricing... more than 2x lol

well i guess your issue is solved, atleast somewhat

you should look for a case + cpu cooler, or a cpu cooler that fits in your current case

or limit your cpu's performance if you dont wanna spend a single cent
