Good day all,

I've built a new system and have first started dabbling with overclocking and wondering if it's worth it. I have an Asus Hero VIII, 6700K and Asus GTX 980TI Factory OC.

My cooler is the H100i and power is ax860i. 16GB DDR4, EVO 250

I've used the AI suite to OC the CPU to 4.7GHZ and it runs well 98% of the time. Although lately I've had the occasional time where during boot the system would randomly reboot again, and one other time I received a blue screen telling me something was wrong and it waited about 30 seconds before rebooting.

So now I'm now wondering if I really need to OC. Since I have all fairly new hardware, am I really seeing a difference? Is it worth it at this point or am I just wearing down my 2 month old PC...

Secondly., After turning off the OC (by clicking "default" in AI suite) it still says its at a 29% boost running at 4.2GHZ... Not sure why...

i find overclocking is more of a hobby than having any actual real world benefits, especially if you're pushing the limits

you will definitely see performance gains from OC, but after a certain limit, the extra performance isnt worth the risk of instability

so its best if u just dial it down to something like 4.6 or even 4.5ghz, so you can get a stable computing experience :D

source: my gpu can do 1520~1540, but i just keep it at 1450 for stability, yes there will be improvements if i push it way up, but the stability issues is not worth it imo

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Surely overclocking the GPU would make a more noticable difference in gaming.

Do you guys think I should update the BIOS before re-overclocking the system?

My BIOS is 1402 x64 dated 01/07/2016

Yes. Flash a new bios before retesting stability.
