Minecraft server, anyone?

Go to solution Solved by Tosa,

Domain is blocky.city. You simply join by typing the hostname, blocky.city, into the IP field thing in Minecraft, but if you insist on using the actual IP address, then it's [2a03:b0c0:2:d0::436:2001] or 178.62.224.77. Though there's no reason to use the IP instead of the hostname.

Hey, so I'm kind of considering creating a Minecraft server and host it at a computer at my house. If this server catches on and gets popular, I might move it to a VPS, if people help cover the expenses, that is. I'd also need volunteers to work as moderators to make sure everyone's at their best behavior at all times as well as some help creating some guidelines and rules for the server.

What I'm wondering right now is if people's interested?

I'm honestly more interested in the server part itself than the actual game, so I'll most likely spend more time making it run as smoothly as possible. But I don't want to put work into this if nobody actually cares to stick around.

Looking forward to hear from you :)

a couple years ago i would have jumped all over this. these days i don't play mc anymore, but i can give you this advice: go ask people who watch the hermitcraft guys on comment section, iv seen people ask for community type servers, you most likely will find people there. especially if you manage to build a well running server.

Just don't be that guy who goes to big populated servers and spam ads for his server and you will do fine.

Yeah, no, I'll stick with a more "professional" way to promote it; This forum topic and building a good reputation would do the trick to begin with, I guess.

IDK

Just create a server of what you like to do, people will come.

For example: I'd a survival server (non PVP) just for building and it was always nearly full (and friendly =/)

Don't make another "x" trend server, that's one of the reasons I don't play MP anymore, I couldn't find decent servers for my style.

Well, that sounds like a good idea to me.

I have custom teraformed map that I created called Crystal Reef. It has existing settlements, PVP & PvE arenas, as well as some very large custom build projects.

If you want it, let me know.

Got pictures?

Well, I'm reviving this thread.

I'm buying a domain and intend to rent a VPS for this project. It'll be a survival server, as close as possible to the vanilla experience and starting off with a limit of 20 players. Starting off, I'm smashing my piggy bank to finance the server, and crossing my fingers it will receive enough donations to cover the costs after a little while.

Of course, I'll need a voluntary crew for this, who's preferably already familiar with Minecraft servers, has a bright mind, is service minded and, most importantly, has time to spare. Skills with things like humor, forum software, plugins, Linux and organizing things is especially appreciated. PM me if you can contribute with your time and tell me what you can do, and we'll see.

if you go through with it and set it up I'd like to play

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

Oh, I've set up a server at a VPS and even have a domain for it. I'm just a little hesitant to get players into the server, partly because I haven't made any rules besides "don't be a dick", and I've thought of a few changes I would like to make to the server in terms of plugins and stuff. I guess it also could use a webpage, perhaps with a forum or something.
