Hi everyone!

My fans are shipping to me as we speak and i don't know whether i should buy the NZXT Sentry 3 fan controller or not. It's like 50€ and if its not worth it i obviously don't want to spend it. So long story short should i honestly buy it or use software for controlling the fans?

Thanks in advance!

If you have to constantly adjust the fan speeds, a controller is really nice. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

You can of course build the PC and use it for a while, then decide if you need the physical controller.

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

I've never had a problem just letting the software control the fans depending on temp myself, but I don't game.

I had a fan controller, but TBH even when using a lot of CPU load it was just a pain to be fiddling with the fan controller.

Manual fan control is pointless and annoying when there are other automatic options out there.

If your new fans aren't PWM fans, then something I'd recommend is the NZXT Grid+. Allows almost pwm-like control on 3pin fans using NZXT's 'CAM' software. It's kinda clunky in the menus, but once it's configured you can leave it alone. You can have individual fans ramp up or down dependant on CPU or GPU Temps and even turn off if not needed. I have my front two fans ramp up or down along with the temps of my GPU, the rear fan running alongside CPU temperatures and my top two fans only turn on when the CPU is over 50 degrees. Although you do need some room for the physical unit itself, I don't really see the need for manual fan control anymore.

But to directly answer your question: No, a front bay manual fan controller isn't really worth it... IMO of course
