Which really looks more like IDE. Oh well...

I already found a case that adapts to USB for less than €10 on Amazon. ^^ Speeds will definitely be USB 2.0, but it'll get the job done for booting Bioshock. And connected to a 3.0 port it might even get enough power from one cable...

Yeah ata/pata/ide are the same thing...sorta.

I have been able to run a drive like this on just a usb 2 connection no prob. might be different if you're needing to burn a disk though.

Hello everyone,

I've been taking apart an old, non-functioning laptop to salvage usable parts. Finally, I've removed the optical drive. Now, my current laptop has no drive, so I thought about getting a case and making this baby an external drive. I don't know much about connectors, so... what is this? PATA? Doesn't look like IDE...

Cheers,

John

PS: inb4 google, can't seem to find anything...

Isn't ATAPI SATA-compatible? If so, I doubt it, because that laptop is from 2004 and had an IDE hard drive in it.

Hm, seems that laptop PATA looks different from desktop PATA, which is odd... well, if it works that'll be a ten buck external drive. ^^
